Thoughts Today on the 10th of November 2021.
We’ll never get this exact day back. I like making blog posts with the date and thoughts on specific days. It’s a nice reminder for all of us that today is special no matter how mundane the day has been. Even if today was a bad day and it felt as though nothing went right, today is special and you’ll never have this moment back.
Hello everyone. How are you this week? I hope you have all been well this past week since my last blog post.
I wanted to chat with you all. It’s currently a Wednesday night at 8:38 pm. Today I spent the day making some finishing touches to two assessments due on Monday. It’s very important that I get specific grades this year to what might hopefully come from it. Keep your fingers crossed for me! Although this is so exciting, it’s a lot of pressure.
I am normally pretty good at dealing with pressure for a greater cause or for something I want. I think I am anyway. I mean it could just be me numbing my emotions. Listen to this week’s podcast if you can relate to this – I talk a bit about my personal struggles with this. I’ll put the link at the end of the blog post :). I can imagine a lot of you reading this can relate to that.
We also went to the pool and I must say it was a hard one. I felt tired and unmotivated. I don’t know if I talk about that enough on here. Sometimes I can’t be bothered with exercising and today was one of those days. I got it done but ugh. Have you had one of these sessions recently?
We made some refined sugar free, vegan Nutella yesterday! I loved Nutella as a kid and would literally eat jars of it. Believe it or not you can actually make really good Nutella without all the chemicals and sugar. I have it in the morning with some rye bread, a fruit bowl and green tea. Jacob also loves it. You can be assured it’s good if Jacob also approves. I’ll link the recipe we used below. You’ll need a food processor.
Beans, Turmeric and Green Tea
I don’t love using the word ‘superfoods’ I think it gives the illusion that one or two foods can provide you with many of the nutrients you need. This will never be the case. A healthy diet is a varied one. Eating a variety of plant foods gives you the best chance of getting all the nutrients you need and more. However, there are a few foods that are seriously AMAZING for our bodies and eating them regularly is very important.
Beans are linked to longevity. In all the blue zones (areas where people live to 100+ years old) people consume beans and they eat them as staples in their diets. I have a podcast on this as well, if you are interested click the link at the end. If you can eat beans, PLEASE, find a way to consume them as much as possible. A great source of protein and antioxidants.
Some different types of beans that are great for your health: (There are honestly so many)
- Chickpeas
- Black beans
- Black eyes beans
- Red kidney beans
- Lentils (same family)
- Fava beans
You’ve probably heard of the health benefits of turmeric. Turmeric is the most natural anti-inflammatory substance known and is RICH in antioxidants. Turmeric is preventative against disease and can be an important part of a healthy diet. You can have turmeric in tea, cooked foods such as curry or in anything really. Remember: make sure to eat turmeric with black pepper or ginger or both to aid with absorption.
I have turmeric in green tea with ginger (the raw kinds). It’s amazing and a great way to get it in. If you like curries or spicy foods – put some turmeric in there, it will enhance the flavour and antioxidant content.
Green tea is another amazing contribution to a healthy diet. Green tea with every meal or at least once a day is very beneficial for your health and has actually been shown to be helpful in cancer prevention!
Self-Love
Eating a healthy diet and exercising is essential for loving yourself unconditionally. There is so much more to it and it’s something I work towards every day. I don’t think there is an end-destination to self-love. We’ll be working on this forever, guys. It’s rubbish I know. Although, it’s pretty amazing at the same time. Working on ourselves every day is a beautiful gift. CHOOSE YOU.
Thank you for reading this little update.
