Hello everyone, how are we all? Today, I am writing to you all from the Island of Tiree, a BEAUTIFUL Scottish Island that I have the privilege to inhabit for a whole month! Jacob’s (my boyfriend) family own a business here and we are helping them for a while. An amazing experience we have been so graciously offered. I am so grateful for this opportunity. I mean just look at the photos above! We’ve only been here for a few days and we have already seen so many beautiful sights.
The water and skies are a crystal blue, turquoise colour and the sand is a beautiful pale white. The island is very flat and small (it takes 20 minutes to drive anywhere). There is one small supermarket and a few cafes but that’s about it! It is certainly not what I am used to and I must say it is very refreshing. You wouldn’t believe this is Scotland!
You all know I love the water and this island is perfect for it. I cannot wait to get in the sea and do some swimming. I am hoping the water isn’t too cold but there is nothing that will stop us from swimming here. Jacob is going to teach me how to surf! He is a very good surfer.
After reading my most recent book on the moon, I have moved onto a new book “The Mind-Gut Connection – How the Hidden Conversation Within Our Bodies Impacts Our Mood, Our Choices and Our Overall Health” written by Emeran Mayer, MD. As you all know I find anything and everything to do with our bodies, our brains, our lifestyles, our diets so interesting. I find my knowledge expands rapidly when I am reading frequently, I always learn so much from these types of books. I am making it a real priority to read every day. It’s perfect to expand my knowledge and then convey that knowledge to you guys through my blog and podcasts!
What has this book taught me so far:
- Our emotional state can be prolonged and maintained by the gut. The more frequently you feel negative, the more that thought pattern will continue and influence your life.
- Our emotions, brain, diet and gut are intrinsically linked.
- 95% of serotonin exists in the gut. Depression, anxiety and our brain complications are widely linked to our gut health and gut-brain connection.
- The gut is a mirror image of our emotional states and our facial expressions can predict the actions of our gut.
I will be doing a podcast on the main points of this book when I have finished it. Follow me on Spotify (search Let’s Talk Health with Mairi or follow the link below) and Instagram (mazzag57) for updates on this!
Fascinating book so far, the gut is very interesting to me and I can’t wait to learn more about it.
I’ve been trying to live by the moon! Yoga, meditation, journalling all according to the moons phases. It’s very interesting. If you’re after a quick run-down of the moon phases and how it can affect your life in a positive way, check out my most recent podcast all about this (30 minutes). The link will be below!
I think it’s enlightening. It keeps me accountable to my meditation and journaling and gives it intention and purpose. I journal on the account of the moon. The moon is waxing right now which is a great phase for growth and improvement in your life. I am focusing on this exact thing now and it feels purposeful and nourishing.
I urge you to take a look at the moons phases and for a few minutes every day put your intention into the universe (particularly if you are a woman). A positive intention that will benefit you and your goals. Who knows If it works but its beneficial either way! Why not give it a try?
The full moon in Scotland is on Thursday and I’m planning to watch it and appreciate the moons beauty and lunar energy! Another reason to be grateful and stop for just a minute.
Do you enjoy these types of blogs? An update of what’s going on and what’s interesting to me right now? Let me know in the comments.
I will leave you with this…

Thank you very much for reading! I appreciate every single view, listen and read!
