There are many commonly misunderstood facts about our health and bodies in today’s society. Due to the mass manipulation of the media we have been led to believe that certain lies are facts! Let’s uncover the truth.
- Carbs are not the enemy!
Carbohydrates are a crucial part of a healthy diet. Fruit and veg are also considered carbohydrates and are certainly not the enemy. Starchy carbohydrates should account to 38% of your daily intake.
When it comes to dieting and weight loss. Carbs DON’T make you fat. The only thing that contributes to weight gain is EATING MORE CALORIES THAN YOU ARE BURNING.
2. You DON’T have to eat healthy to lose weight.
You could eat nothing but chocolate in a day and still lose weight!! Remember the only factor in weight loss is burning more calories than you consume. So, if you eat 1700 calories in chocolate and burned 2000, over a period of time you WILL lose weight. Would I recommend that for health HELL NO!
The reason this misconception took place is that healthy food has less calories than processed foods such as chocolate. If you ate nothing but chocolate in a day, you would be starving. Processed foods are full of refined sugar and refined carbs. Meaning that you would be full for a short period of time and then start to feel hungry again. With healthy foods, they aren’t just lower in calories but keep you fuller for longer and also maintain your health. Thus, making it much easier to maintain a calorie deficit.
3. Hunger doesn’t always mean that your body needs food.
I believe that the body’s natural ability to notify the mind when it requires food is no longer reliable. Due to our constant fascination with foods, particularly with foods high in sugar and saturated fat we have dimmed the body’s natural abilities with addiction. If you consume refined sugar regularly (chocolate, sweets etc) most likely when you feel hungry after a satisfying meal or after eating enough in a day it is the body craving sugar: an addiction we have built up in the western world.
Your body feels hungry when it requires FUEL. This means nutrients, water, subsistence. When you respond to that feeling with processed foods/ sugar you will suppress that feeling for a short period of time and then your body will be hungry again because it still doesn’t have the fuel it needs.
So, when you are hungry between meals etc. Eat some fruit and drink some water.
4. Eggs are GOOD for you.
There has been so much controversy around weather or not eggs are good for you over the years. Eggs are packed with nutrients, particularly the yolk. They are a bio-available and complete source of many nutrients.
There are two forms of cholesterol: HDL and LDL. HDL is “good” cholesterol and LDL is “bad”. Eggs are high in HDL. This type removes cholesterol from the body and tissues and carries LDL to the liver to be destroyed.
5. Sugary drinks are one of THE WORST things you can consume.
Liquid sugar. Drinking this is basically asking for disease. High consumption of refined sugar causes inflammation in the body. Inflammation causes cancer.
If you do one thing for yourself make it to stop the consumption of sugary drinks.
6. Low fat products doesn’t mean it’s better for you.
Fat and sugar are two of the main components used for flavour. Even in healthy fats (olive oil) and sugars (fruit) they add flavour to our foods. Manufacturers add refined sugar and refined fats to foods. It’s usually more fat than sugar or more sugar than fat depending on the product. When foods say “LOW FAT” it just means HIGH SUGAR. They are certainly not good for you.
7. Weight loss supplements NEVER work.
Seriously, they don’t and never will. They are all promoting the manipulation of the body and mind in some way.
If you want to lose weight, there’s only one way to do it. Stop wasting your money and time.
8. Having a healthy body is more than what you weigh.
Yes, a healthy body weight is crucial for health but we focus too much time and energy on being as small as possible. Research has shown that obese people that are physically active have the same risk of developing chronic disease than a person of a healthy weight. Of course, being obese and overweight is a health issue but it’s time we focus more on movement and exercise rather than the number on the scale.
9. Sugar is ADDICTIVE.
Many studies have found refined sugar to have the same chemical changes to the brain as cocaine and found that sugar can be even MORE addictive!!! Refined sugar is controlling our nation and its time that we face it!
10. Eating at night or at any specific time of the day doesn’t make you gain weight.
Total calorie intake is important. It doesn’t matter what time you eat it.
Remember, the dieting, health and fitness industry is HUGE and will constantly try to sell you these ideas. Don’t believe anything to do with health unless it’s a reliable source.
